Which patron authentication options are available with a Public Library subscription?

We support the following patron authentication options:

SpydusAPI Authentication
This uses the SpydusAPI, based on the Library Communications Framework (LCF) API. When this authentication option is used, staff and patrons can log in with their library card number and catalogue PIN/password by navigating to Log In > Library Barcode Login > selecting their library's name from the dropdown box and submitting their details. More info and set up instructions here.

SIP2 Authentication
We also support SIP2 with TLS/Stunnel. When SIP2 is used, staff and patrons can log in with their library card number and catalogue PIN/password by navigating to Log In > Library Barcode Login > selecting their library's name from the dropdown box and submitting their details. More info and set up instructions here.

Barcode Range Authentication
If your library can't use either of the options above you can let us know your library's barcode range then patrons will be able to log in by navigating to Log In > Library Barcode Login > selecting their library's name from the dropdown box, entering their library card number and registering a password for their individual account.

The main difference in terms of patron experience is that there is one less password for them to remember if SpydusAPI/LCF or SIP2 are used.

We can also set up the following for your library's account:

Direct Login Link

We can provide a direct link that will take your patrons to our library login page with your library's name preselected from the dropdown box. This is particularly useful in instances where IP address or referring domain recognition (as below) are unavailable, for example when linking to StoryBox Hub from social media posts or email newsletters.

IP Address Recognition
If a user visits /libraries (and only that page) from an IP address or IP range you have supplied, your library name will be preselected. The user enters their barcode (and password/PIN if required) to log onto the site.

Referring Domain Recognition
If a user clicks a link to /libraries (and only that page) from a webpage on a domain you have supplied, your library name will be preselected. The user enters their barcode (and password/PIN if required) to log onto the site.

If you need help with or further information about any of these settings, please contact us.
